News Photographer

ABC 17 is looking for someone who wants to help grow the station’s news product while growing their own career. The company is looking for a nightly NEWS PHOTOGRAPHER. The right candidate will be excited to join a vibrant team of journalists who remain on the cutting edge of this constantly changing field.

JOB DESCRIPTION: The News Photographer’s duties will include shooting video, conducting interviews, running a live truck and/or backpack live unit and using other multimedia tools to gather content for nightly newscasts, the station’s news website and other online ventures. The successful candidate will be expected to function within the framework of a research-driven news department that emphasizes source cultivation, enterprise reporting and breaking news. Employee must have the flexibility to work in the modern newsroom and could be called upon to beat report, produce, web edit, etc.

SKILLS: The right candidate must have a good eye for shooting, an understanding of broadcast video equipment including editing software and superior news judgment. He/she will have an appreciation for the elements that make a live television newscast more watchable. The candidate must work well under pressure, work well with other people and meet strict deadlines.

HOURS/SCHEDULE: This is a full-time position with flexibility required by the employee.

EDUCATION: A college degree in journalism, communication or a related field is preferred. Previous newsroom experience is a plus.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: The position will require operation of a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use. Candidate must pass a drug test, background check, and MVR check.
