Tracking gradual warming and increasing rain chances

TONIGHT: Mostly clear with patchy fog in river valleys. Lows in the upper 50s to around 60.

TOMORROW: Mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the lower 80s. A storm or two is possible across western Missouri by evening.

EXTENDED: High pressure centered to our east has allowed for dew points to hold near 50 on Wednesday, keeping things comfortable heading into the evening. Winds begin to shift to the south overnight, leaving us slightly warmer with morning temperatures hovering near 60. Increasing moisture could allow patchy fog to develop in low lying areas by daybreak. Highs on Thursday rise into the lower 80s with stronger winds on Friday. A few showers and storms are possible between late Thursday night and Friday morning, especially across northern and western Missouri. We could see a few pop up storms by afternoon during the peak heating of the day, with storms tapering off after sunset. A cold front approaches over the weekend, stalling and acting as a forcing mechanism for scattered storms to pop up late in the day on Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, temperatures reach the upper 80s for the weekend along with dew points rising to near 70. That combination will yield a heat index in the lower 90s. Next week continues to look hot and active as low pressure moves in off the Plains, bringing storm chances Monday. The middle of next week looks hotter as highs reach the upper 80s to around 90, with heat index values rising into the mid-upper 90s.
