Bill would target greater diversity among college leaders

A new bill was filed in the Missouri house of representatives that would change the occupational makeup of the state’s curator boards.

If passed, HB 2179 would require no more than two curators of any publicly funded, four-year university be of the same occupation.

After the resignation of curators Sparks and Stewart, the university of Missouri’s board of curators is made up of 6 lawyers.

“It’s important to have a diverse board, not only on what you think, but also on your life experiences,” said bill sponsor Rep. Don Rone, (R) Portageville.

Board curators are appointed by the governor and approved by the state senate.
