Columbia parents worried over weekend mall fight

A cell phone video posted on Facebook shows a first-hand account of the fight that took place at the Columbia Mall on Saturday.

A number of concerned parents have contacted ABC 17 News through Facebook– one wrote she doesn’t “feel safe taking our children to our own mall during daylight hours.”

The cell phone video starts with a group of guys walking through the mall. They’re in the food court area by the carousel — an area full of kids.

Seconds into the video, a fight breaks out by the exit door. One person can be seen picking up a chair — looking like he’s going to throw it.

The fight moves outside in front of the mall where threats are made by several people.

One concerned mother on Faceback asked “How are families supposed to feel safe going anywhere anymore?!”

It’s unclear what caused the fight. ABC 17 News called the mall. Management said it was most likely an ongoing issue between two people that boiled over in the mall, adding mall security responded.

Columbia police showed up shortly after the fight. Officers said the fight was over and cleared by the time they got there. ABC 17 News has requested a police report of the incident, which will take a few days to get.
