Light Snow, Gusty Winds, and Cold Temperatures Expected For Monday

After a period of mild, above-average temperatures in Mid-Missouri, winter will make a comeback at the start of next work week.

An upper level trough will deepen over the Great Plains and Midwest region Sunday evening. As it does so, cold and windy conditions will settle into the region and persist through Monday. A chance for light snow showers will accompany this shift in weather, with the best chance for snow occurring in the Monday morning to early afternoon time frame. With the limited amount of moisture available to this system, snow amounts are not expected to be great, with only a dusting to a half an inch likely. However, with sub-freezing daytime highs on tap for Monday, any snow that has fallen will stick, possibly making roads a bit slick during the day on Monday.

Snow won’t be the only hazard with this system. Winds are expected to strengthen on Monday, with gusts up to 30 mph in the afternoon. When coupled with the cold temperatures, these gusty winds will push windchill values into the teens on Monday and into the single digits Monday night into Tuesday.

Once the trough shifts to the east by midweek, temperatures will warm back into the forties.
