Jefferson City violent crime cut in half over 10-year period
The latest Uniform Crime Reporting numbers indicate an overall downward crime trend in Jefferson City over the past 10 years.
Violent crime, which includes homicide, rape, robbery and assault, decreased by 50 percent from 2006 to 2015. The city had its highest rate of violent crime in 2006 with 324 reported offenses.
In that same time span, property crimes decreased by about 10 percent from 1,576 reported incidents to 1,383.
While both violent and property crime rates are down significantly since 2006, the city did see a slight increase from 2014 to 2015.
Violent crime increased by about 22 percent with 162 reported offenses in 2015. Robbery and rape increased the most in the violent crime category. Robberies were up by 68 percent and rapes were up by 100 percent, doubling from 6 to 12 cases.
Property crime increased by only 3 percent with 1,383 reports.
