Approaching Storm System Brings Chance For Thunderstorms Tuesday

A low-pressure system expected to track from southeastern Kansas into northwestern Mid-Missouri Monday night will bring a slight threat for thunderstorms for areas mainly to the east of Highway 63 on Tuesday. The associated warm front with this system will drag in warm and moist air to the Mid-Missouri region early Tuesday morning. As the system continues to shift to the northeast, a trailing cold front will then interact with the aforementioned warm air, creating instability in the atmosphere.

Models have depicted enough instability as well as wind sheer to produce a chance for thunderstorms. While nothing severe is expected at this point for our region, strong winds will be a concern on Tuesday, as gusts up to 25mph are possible by Tuesday afternoon. The threat for thunderstorms will end by Tuesday night.
