Schools go on lockdown after social media threat

Several schools in different states went on lockdown Monday morning due to a viral social media threat.

Schools in Florida, Michigan., and Kansas City had heightened security after a screen shot of a text message was passed around social media that read, “Rhs shootout!!!! Don’t come to school tomorrow Monday January 25th, 2016!”

Raytown High School near Kansas City went on lockdown around 7:00 a.m. due to the threat.

Columbia Public Schools were not affected by the threats, but officials said they take every threat seriously and they do have a plan in place if a school or schools were threatened.

“We work with our local law enforcement agencies, we work with emergency operations to make sure we fully investigate every threat that takes place. We have safety and security procedures and protocols in place. We do regular drills in our buildings so all of our staff and our students know exactly what to do should we have an emergency situation,” said Michelle Baumstark with Columbia Public Schools.
