Missouri House approves bill on extra voter restrictions
Two measures requiring a photo ID to vote is heading to the Missouri Senate.
The House voted to approve the voter ID bill 114 to 39 Thursday morning.
The bill will require voter approval. The Missouri Supreme Court ruled in 2006 that requiring a photo ID to vote was unconstitutional.
Photo ID requirements wouldn’t go into effect unless the state sets aside money to pay for the documents required for an ID, such as a person’s birth certificate. That could cost as much as $17 million over the next three fiscal years.
The bill is now heading to the Missouri Senate. If passed there, it will go to the governor.
It’s not yet known when the Missouri Senate will take up the bill.
