St. Louis man charged after leading police on high speed chase
Roosevelt Easley, 30, of St. Louis, was charged in Boone County Monday with resisting arrest and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident.
Easley was taken into custody on Friday, January 8 near Missouri Boulevard and Dunklin Street in Jefferson city after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase that started in Columbia.
Easley was charged in Cole County on Friday for possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest, tampering with evidence and driving with a suspended license.
Authorities said the incident started after a vehicle was seen going the wrong way on the Business Loop near Creasy Springs in Columbia. Officials with the Missouri State Highway Patrol say they used a helicopter to help locate the suspect’s car. MSHP officials said they spotted the suspect’s car on Highway 63 southbound, where the pursuit officially started.
ABC 17 News confirmed the car hit a median cable during the chase and kept driving.
Authorities said the driver eventually hit spike strips that officers had laid near the Boone and Cole County line. They said the suspect then lost his right front tire and crashed near East Dunklin Street and Missouri Boulevard. Easley apparently ran from the vehicle before officers caught him near a business in the area, according to law enforcement.
The efforts involved Columbia, Ashland and Jefferson City police, plus the Boone County Sheriff’s Department and the Highway Patrol.
Easley is being currently in the Boone County Jail with a $152,250 bond.
