Tracking rounds of strong storms through Tuesday

TONIGHT: A line of thunderstorms moves in late, bringing isolated gusty winds and heavy rain after midnight through Monday morning. Lows fall into the low 70s with wind gusts to 30 mph.

TOMORROW: Morning and early afternoon storms could bring heavy rain and strong winds. A few storms could be severe, especially south of I-70 after the lunch hour, posing a strong wind and tornado threat.

EXTENDED: A line of strong to severe storms pressing east out of Kansas will make for a noisy late Sunday night/Monday morning as heavy rain and strong wind gusts will be possible. This line will slowly sink south through the morning, and potentially interact with a larger amount of instability south of I-70 by early afternoon, enhancing the early afternoon severe risk in this zone, through about 6-7:00 p.m. The first round of storms could clear the viewing area before sunset, possibly leaving enough dry time for another round of storms after midnight that could bring damaging winds and a few tornadoes overnight into Tuesday morning. Tuesday's severe threat will be higher south and east, depending on how far south the cold front gets during the day. We'll be much cooler and clearer on Wednesday, as temperatures drop from the upper 70s Tuesday to upper 60s on Wednesday. The pattern remains somewhat active by the end of the week, with a chance for scattered showers and storms on Friday, and then potentially diurnally driven, or daytime heating chances of storms over the weekend as temperatures heat back up into the upper 80s by Sunday. The holiday weekend doesn't appear to be a total washout, but make sure you have the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather App to keep an eye on the radar and lightning alerts if you have outdoor plans.
