Rain Thursday, warm Friday, light snow Saturday

Rain will increase Thursday morning ahead of an area of low pressure which will move in from the southwest and track across western Missouri Thursday night. Light rain will spread across the area through the morning Thursday becoming likely through mid-afternoon then taper off through early evening.

After a few hours of dry time, showers will increase Thursday night through Friday morning as low pressure moves into northern Missouri. Rain is most likely north of I-70 Friday morning with drier weather south through the day. Total rainfall amounts of .25″ to .50″ are expected in most of Mid-Missouri.

Southwesterly winds will usher in warm air Friday, causing temperatures to climb into the upper 40s to near 50. The warm-up won’t last long. Arctic air will seep into northwestern Missouri Friday night as a cold front moves in with another wave of low pressure aloft. This wave will also produce rain showers Friday night.

As the coldest air moves in Saturday, light rain is expected to change to light snow by early Saturday morning. A period of light snow is possible through early afternoon as temperatures continue to fall. At this time, under an inch of snow is expected but will depend on exact track of a wave of low pressure moving to our south. We will have more on forecast snow amounts as we get closer to the weekend and the exact path of this system is determined.
