Lightning strikes house in north Columbia, starts attic fire
Firefighters responded to a home in north Columbia after it was hit by a lightning strike Saturday night.
Emergency crews responded to the 300 block of Sea Eagle Drive shortly after 7:00 p.m.
Crews found a 10 foot hole in the roof along with smoke and flames in the attic, according to Assistant Fire Chief Brad Fraizer.
Firefighters put out the flames in about 10 minutes and put a tarp on the roof to cover the hole.
Columbia Water and Light crews also responded to the scene and disconnected the utilities.
No one was at the home at the time, Fraizer said.
A neighbor called 911 after hearing the lighting strike the home and smelling smoke.
No one was hurt.
