Mild Christmas, rainy weekend

Temperatures will remain well above average Christmas Eve through Saturday, cooling slightly Sunday. It looks mainly dry Thursday and Friday with the exception of brief light rain or sprinkles which are possible Thursday morning as another wave of low pressure moves through. In areas north of HWY 24, some snowflakes could mix in. Clouds will break up Thursday afternoon to partly cloudy skies as high temperatures reach the low 50s.

More clouds will pass through on Christmas Day but it will stay dry with high temperatures near 50 and a light easterly breeze. Clouds will thicken Friday night with showers moving in after 10 PM, increasing toward morning.

The weekend will be rainy with periods of rain and thunder. Rainfall will be heaviest south of I-70 but all of Mid-Missouri will see over an inch with up to 5 inches near I-44 by 6 PM Sunday where flooding is possible. Travelers should keep up to date on the latest weather conditions and flood warnings this weekend, especially those traveling on I-44 where the heaviest rain is expected.

We will have updates on the weekend rain and rain amounts the next several days so please check back for the latest.
