Jefferson City oks Hwy. 179 project, discusses riverfront access

The Jefferson City Council approved two proposals during its meeting Monday night.

Members voted unanimously to pass an ordinance amending a concept PUD plan which calls for a major mixed use development on Highway 179. The new plan includes 200 residential units and more than 453,000 square feet of commercial space.

The council also unanimously approved a proposal involving improvements at the Menards on Stonecreek Drive. The bill includes improvements including the construction of a warehouse in the lumberyard area. The Jefferson City Planning and Zoning Commission also unanimously approved the proposal back in November.

Monday night’s meeting also included a presentation about riverfront access. Engineer Bob Gilbert provided an overview of the proposed project. The Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce has taken the lead on that project, since there is technically no easy way to get to the river currently. It was revealed during the presentation that about $1 million is still needed to fund the project.
