Warm Weather Continues into Christmas Week

For areas east of the Rockies, a white Christmas is not looking likely this year. In fact Friday’s daytime high temperatures could break records for cities in the eastern half of the continental United States stretching from Texas all the way up through New York.

This comes as the result of the forecasted jet stream pattern. As a trough of colder air is projected to build over the Rockies in this upcoming week, a ridge is expected to lift over the East in response, allowing a surge of warmer air to usher into the region.

Here in Mid-Missouri, our temperatures for Monday through Christmas day are forecasted to remain about 10 to 20 degrees above average. The record high temperature for December 25th is set at 74 degrees, which occurred in the year 1889. While are temperatures aren’t expected to climb to quite that level, temperatures will still be unseasonably warm. This, of course, will make snow on Christmas highly unlikely.
