Woman charged in fatal Scott Blvd. crash
ABC 17 News confirmed Friday that the second driver in a fatal September 19 crash on Scott Blvd. in Columbia has been charged in a grand jury indictment.
A wrongful death lawsuit was filed against Sophia Mosby in November.
Two people were killed, including a 9 year-old boy.
Jeffrey Jiang, 9, and his mother, Ping Gui, 48, were both killed as their vehicle was turning left in front of another car, driven by Sophia Mosby, 30. It happened just after the curve around Scott Boulevard at Smith Drive, which becomes Rollins Road.
Court documents said Mosby was speeding and ran a yellow light before the accident.
The driver of the victims’ car was a 15 year-old with a permit. He went to the hospital with moderate to severe injuries.
Four children under the age of 10 were in Mosby’s car, including a 6 year-old who was not wearing a seatbelt. They all suffered minor injuries.
Mosby is charged with 2 counts of involuntary manslaughter, endangering the welfare of a child, failure to secure a child, and driving without a license.
Her bond is set at $50,000 and she’s set to be arraigned on Monday. Per a condition of her bond, she is not allowed to drive a car.
