Victim: member of Mexican Mafia attacked him in Sedalia

A Mid-Missouri man is facing numerous charges in Pettis County after multiple violent incidents over the past few days.

On Sunday, a Sedalia man told police he was attacked while walking home in the 300 block of Scott Joplin Ct.

The victim said 29-year-old Jose Ortiz started punching him, and the victim fell on the wet pavement.

When the victim fell, court documents said Ortiz pulled out a sharp weapon and swung it at his leg.

During the incident, the victim dropped his cell phone, and Ortiz grabbed it and started running away.

The victim told police Ortiz is a member of the Mexican Mafia and “knows what he is capable of.”

The victim said he is scared of the retaliation for his wife calling the police.

On Monday, Sedalia police officers responded to another reported assault with a knife.

The victim said he was forced into a van and taken into a home on 7th St. and Grand Ave.

The victim described the person who went by “Tony” as Hispanic.

Officers later found Ortiz hiding underneath two mattresses in the home.

Ortiz is charged with 1st degree robbery, 1st degree assault, unlawful use of a weapon, armed criminal action, and stealing.

His bond for both incidents is $350,000 combined.
