45 pounds of marijuana found in Cooper Co. traffic stop
A 40-year-old California man was arrested Sunday morning after Highway Patrol troopers pulled him over for a registration violation.
Troopers stopped Michael Cox at the 104 mile marker on I-70, and smelled a strong odor of burnt marijuana coming from him.
Cox told the trooper he could not search the car, but the trooper used a K-9 to sniff around the car for traces of drugs.
The dog positively alerted, allowing the trooper to search car. He then found marijuana rolling papers and an empty jar in Cox’s backpack.
He also found about 45 pounds of marijuana in two duffle bags.
Cox was arrested and taken to the Cooper Co. Jail for possession with intent to distribute marijuana, and unlawful use of drug paraphernalia.
