Power outage affects residents, traffic lights in Columbia

ABC 17 News has confirmed more than 800 people lost power Tuesday morning in parts of east and central Columbia. The issue was first reported around 11 a.m.

By 11:50 a.m. three different outages were reported in Columbia.

One outage impacted traffic signals at the intersection of Highway 63 and Interstate 70. Boone County Joint Communications said the lights at the connector were out just after 11:30 Tuesday morning.

Water and Light crews confirmed they had isolated the problem and restored power to all but 12 customers by about 12:08 p.m. Tuesday.

Water and Light crews said the problem was with a steel pole near the Highway 63 and Interstate 70 connector. They said there were still some traffic signals out and a few businesses in the area without power around 12:20 Tuesday afternoon.

Water and Light told ABC 17 News a jumper wire came loose and burned, causing the outage. Once crews found the main outage, they isolated the issued and served hundreds of customers through another line.

All residents now have power as of Tuesday afternoon.
