Two Mid-MO disabled care facilities to close

ABC 17 News has confirmed two Mid-Missouri care facilities for the disabled are being forced to close their doors.

Arbor Ridge Manor and Arbor Ridge Estates, both in Osage County, informed their residents this week that they will need to find somewhere else to live by next Thursday.

Court documents said the owners filed for bankruptcy back in May. The document is a petition to issue Chapter 7 bankruptcy for Jeffery and Rayanne Strubberg, the owners of the Arbor Ridge facilities.

They did not want to comment on the case Tuesday, but residents told ABC 17 News they wished there was a better warning.

“Yesterday morning, when the manager came in, she got a phone call from the owners, and that;s when she found out about it and that’s when she proceeded to gather us all up and tell us.” said resident Cathy Serino.

Serino and the 30 other disabled residents of the Arbor Ridge care facilities were told that they would have to find somewhere else to live. With only about 10 days to find a new place to live and get needed services, she said it has been difficult.

“I was in shock. At first, I was terrified. Then, jumping back and forth between being scared and being mad,” said Serino.

The Strubbergs would not comment on the closure, but 2014 court documents outline a series of contract breaches with the company from which they were renting. Partial or missing rent payments, withholding funds, and unjust enrichment just to name a few of the breaches.

ABC 17 News talked to one of the building managers on Tuesday.

She said the owners didn’t know the building would have to close before this week, but they are doing everything they can to help the residents transition into new facilities.

“They’re starting the process to try and help me find a new place and I know they’re working with other residents,” said Serino.

ABC 17 News reached out to the Attorney General’s Office for a comment, but that call was not returned as of Tuesday night.
