ABC 17 looks back at Coach Pinkel’s time at MU

One week after Mizzou’s head football coach announces he will leave at the end of the year, ABC 17 is going to air a 30-minute look back at Gary Pinkel’s 15 years at the University of Missouri.

Pinkel, 63, fought back tears on Friday when he said he is retiring after the 2015 seasons, following his cancer diagnosis of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He plans to remain in the position through December 31 or until the university finds a replacement.

Pinkel was first diagnosed in May and first underwent treatments in both May and June. During Friday’s special, ABC 17 will take a look back at Pinkel’s first six years on the job, which was an uphill battle. It will also cover some of his lesser known accomplishments, leading up to the SEC years and a look forward to a possible replacement.

ABC 17 is also sitting down one-on-one with the former MU athletic director, Mike Alden, to get his take on Pinkel’s time at Mizzou.

The half-hour features starts at 6:30 p.m. on KMIZ / ABC 17, and replaying at 9:30 p.m. on Fox 22 / KQFX.
