Suspect charged with making a terroristic threat at Missouri Valley College

Marshall Police and public safety officials at Missouri Valley College in Marshall are investigating a threat made on social media Wednesday.

The Department of Public Safety and Student Affairs said it got notice of a threat posted to the social media site Yik Yak.

18-year-old Paris G. Lovett, a MVC student, is charged with making a terroristic threat, a class D felony. He’s being held on a $5000.00 cash only bond.

According to court documents, Marshall Police say they received a call from the Missouri Valley College public safety officer in reference to threatening posts on Yik Yak.

A post was made to the social media site in the Marshall area. It read, “We should’ve have (sic) been wiser and tried to help you sloppy European (expletive).” A second post read, “But it’s a new age and I can write (sic) my ancestors (sic) wrong and just start killing y’all off.” A third post read, “Inform them bitch idc (I don’t care) there’s so much hate in my heart you will never understand.”

After cooperation from Yik Yak employees, the IP address was traced to Missouri Valley College and the phone number used to make the post traced back to Lovett.

Lovett was contacted and agreed to come to the Marshall Police Department on Wednesday afternoon, where he was arrested.

Lovett reportedly told an investigator that he didn’t mean to offend anyone by his comments. He said they weren’t supposed to be taken literally. Lovett also said he ins’t against anyone and is very sorry from the bottom of his heart.

No other people were involved in the making of the threat.

All active alerts have been canceled at Missouri Valley.
