City still searching for source of water on Business Loop 70 in Columbia

A Columbia business owner and the city are still working to find the source of water that is pooling up on Business Loop 70.

ABC 17 News reported last month Robinson’s Cleaners was cited by the city for a leaky water tank. The owners said they made the repairs, but the water is still pooling up.

ABC 17 News checked back in with the city and business owner Tuesday night for an update as rain was causing even more water to pool.

The city said last month it was working with MODOT and the Public Works Department to try to figure out the source of the trickling water coming from behind the Robinson’s Cleaners property.

The city said last month it was believed to be groundwater.

Columbia Water and Light said crews dug another block south of the property to check all the valves and pipes for a leak, but that everything appeared to be in working order.

So for now, the city said it will continue to work with the other departments to find the source.

The owner of Robinson’s Cleaners, Kit Price and her brother, were due to be back in court Wednesday for ordinance violations that the city initially thought was causing the water to pool up on the street.

The case has been continued and a new court date has not yet been set.

Price said the water is causing damage to her driveways and said she is worried about what will happen when temperatures drop below freezing.
