Columbia Police are looking for a man who has been charged in connection with an attempted robbery and shooting in central Columbia in late October.

Davontay Hayes, 20, was charged Thursday with first degree robbery, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He has a warrant out for his arrest.

The prosecuting attorney has requested a $100,000 bond.

The incident happened October 25 just after 10:00 near West Worley Street and McBaine Avenue. Police said they responded to the scene for shots heard.

They said a 17-year-old male victim reported he waswaiting in his car that was parked in a driveway on West Worley while a family friend went inside the house. The victim said he saw several subjects standing around in front of the house.

The victim told police four black males then came up to his vehicle. He said at least three of the men displayed handguns and demanded his money. The victim apparently refused and said two of the suspect’s pistol whipped him.

The victim was apparently able to escape the car and run into the residence. The victim said the suspects ran to the rear of the residence and fired multiple rounds.

The victim and the family friend then left the residence in the victim’s vehicle.

Police said no one was injured from the gunfire.

According to the probable cause statement, the victim was able to help police identify Hayes based on the nickname the other suspect called him during the incident. Police said they were familiar with Hayes going by that nickname and known to frequent the area.

In a photo line-up the victim identified Hayes as his attacker.
