MU Alumni Association responds to campus protests
The Mizzou Alumni Association has responded to on campus protests and the resignations of Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin and System President Tim Wolfe.
The MAA said it is “deeply trouvled and concerned about the tensions at Mizzou. We area appalled by the hateful acts and campus culture described by our students.”
The association went on to say, “We support our students, faculty and staff and realize there are challenges ahead as we begin the healing process to move Mizzou forward.
We continue to listen to the many diverse voices of alumni, students, parents, faculty and staff. The MAA is committed to fostering a Mizzou experience that is supportive of diversity and inclusion.
There is much work ahead to achieve the Mizzou we all want. We are grateful for the thousands of alumni who have stepped up to voice their concerns as well as those who have offered support; and we encourage all alumni to volunteer to make Mizzou and the MAA stronger.
As a step to ensure inclusion of a broader alumni base, the MAA is partnering with alumni to formally relaunch the Black Alumni Network. More than 1,000 signatures in support of this effort have been gathered in a grassroots effort by alumni to align with more than 100 other chapters and organizations around the world.
By utilizing our large and diverse constituency, the Mizzou Alumni Association will be proactive in advocating and communicating the best interests and traditions of Missouri’s flagship university. Going forward, we expect to play a vital role in shaping the future of the Mizzou.
Finally, as part of the Mizzou Family, we stand united to reaffirm the MAA core values:
DISCOVERY
DIVERSITY
PRIDE
RESPECT
RESPONSIBILTY
TRADITION
Thank you for your commitment and support.”
