Prescott, Mississippi State roll over Mizzou
Thursday night games continue to a thorn in the side of the Tigers.
Dak Prescott threw for four touchdowns as 20th-ranked Mississippi State (7-2) beat Missouri 31-13 on a miserable, rainy night in Columbia.
Mizzou (4-5) made it a one-point deficit when Russell Hansbrough scored Mizzou’s first touchdown in more than a month. The senior running back scored from 14 yards out to make it a 14-13 ballgame before halftime.
The Tigers have lost each of their three Thursday night games. MU dropped a 6-0 contest to Colorado in 1992. Missouri also lost 27-12 to Nebraska in 2009.
Prescott, who finished 27-41 and 303 passing yards, turned on the jets in the second half. He connected with De’Runnya Wilson for a 63-yard catch. Then Prescott found Wilson for a 5-yard touchdown to make it a 21-13 Bulldog lead. After a field goal, Prescott found Fred Brown with 3:26 left in the third quarter to essentially seal the deal against Mizzou and its inept offense.
Drew Lock finished 11-26 with 107 yards and two interceptions. The lone bright spot for Mizzou was Tyler Hunt, who caught a 35-yard screen pass to get MU in the red zone in the first quarter. Hunt also broke off a 72-yard run from the goal line. Hunt finished with 120 all-purpose yards.
Kentrell Brothers, the nation’s leading tackler who was mysteriously left off the Butkus Award’s semifinalist list, had 14 total tackles and a blocked punt on Thursday.
Mizzou is on a four-game losing streak, its longest since 2004 when it lost five games straight. The Tigers will travel to Kansas City to face BYU next Saturday.
