Hazmat crews called to Columbia College after small explosion

ABC 17 News confirmed over 10 units responded to Columbia College Thursday afternoon after someone was burned during a small explosion on campus.

Columbia firefighters and ambulances responded near Rogers and Rangeline just before 1:30 p.m., after hearing a victim suffered chemical burns. Officials said the victims were using nitric acid inside a classroom.

ABC 17 News has since learned three people were hurt, including one person with serious injuries. Two people have been treated and released. Crews could not confirm if the victims were faculty or students.
