Voters pass park sales tax, fail other issues in Boone and Cooper counties

Boone County residents passed Proposition 1 for the city of Columbia Tuesday night. The tax revenue will go to the city’s parks, and will last for another six years, and bringing in $18 million. Get the complete election results here.

The 1/8 cent sales tax for parks passed 6048 votes to 2506. That sales tax was originally set to expire in March.

Boone County voters turned down a 67 cent tax levy for the Harrisburg R-8 school district 260 votes to 299.

In Cooper County, voters struck down a sales tax that would have increased from 1/4% to 3/8%. That revenue would have gone toward enhancements at the 911 center. The ballot measure would have created a voter-approved board that would oversee all operations at the center.

That issue failed 788 votes to 497.

Voters in Cooper County also struck down a $600,000 bond issue that would have been used for street improvements in Otterville.
