Planned Parenthood responds after petitions delivered to MU chancellor

Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri responded Tuesday night it said after students, faculty, and a group called MU for PP met with MU Chancellor R. Bowen Loftin.

Planned Parenthood said they delivered more than 2,000 petitions calling on Loftin to reverse the decision to cancel contracts with Planned Parenthood, and eliminate privileges at MU Health Care for its doctor.

Planned Parenthood released a statement, saying,

“We urge Chancellor Loftin to listen to the thousands of students, faculty, and community members demanding that he stand up for the rights of students and the lives of all Missourians by fully reinstating both the physician privileges and all training contracts between MU and Planned Parenthood of Kansas and Mid-Missouri.”

“Chancellor Loftin’s recent announcement that MU will cover health insurance premiums for graduate student employees next school year gave MU and Columbia hope that he’s willing to do the right thing when it comes to the interests of MU students.”

“The clock is ticking for Chancellor Loftin to restore physician privileges by December 1 , a critical step ensuring that the full range of high quality reproductive health care services, including abortion, remain legal, available and accessible in Mid-Missouri. The citizens of Missouri will not tolerate going back to being a single provider state.”
