Gevelinger faces new charges

A man claiming to be a Catholic monk, and accused of financially exploiting an elderly person, is facing new charges in Howard County tonight.

61-Year-old Ryan Gevlinger is now accused of assault on a law enforcement officer, property damage and a felony charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to court documents, Gevlinger is a felon after a 1994 conviction of misconduct in public office in the Edgerton, Wisconsin.

This is the same man who is accused of trying to convince an 86-year-old woman to sell her farm near Armstrong, and give him some of the money from the property sale.

According to a probable cause statement, Howard County Sheriff’s Deputies found a handgun, ammunition, speed loaders and two bullet-proof vests during a search of Gevelinger’s home on March 31 st . That’s when they arrested him for the charge of financial exploitation of an elderly/disabled person.

The assault and property damage charges come from an encounter on August 3 rd . Court documents claim Gevelinger assaulted a sheriff’s deputy and damaged a Taser on another deputies’ belt.
