Man gets 110 years for kidnapping, raping ex-girlfriend

A Columbia man was sentenced to 110 years in prison Monday, after he was convicted of raping and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, before he was arrested in a standoff in Miller County.

Investigators say Scott Peoples took her from the couple’s home in north Columbia in the 5000 block of Buxton Lane the morning of March 5, 2014. She was beat and gagged with duct tape and assaulted. At the time, neighbors told ABC 17 News they heard screaming but thought it was the couple’s son.

Later that morning, a woman showed up at at the Eagle Stop gas station in Eugene near Highway 17 and Highway 54 in Miller County. She told witnesses to call police, because she had been assaulted and raped.

That same day, Peoples was arrested following a standoff at an abandoned house where his ex-girlfriend able to escape before getting help.

A jury convicted Peoples of felony kidnapping, first-degree domestic assault and sodomy on September 9, 2015, before his sentencing Monday.
