Columbia Chamber of Commerce holds job workshop for women looking to get into the workforce

Dozens of women attended the Changing the Odds seminar Saturday in Columbia to learn more about the dos and don’ts when applying for a job.

The Women’s Network Committee, which is a division of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce, puts on the workshop twice a year.

“It’s a free event to women in the community that may have been out of the workforce for a while, are having trouble getting into the workforce, or just need some resources to learn how to better equip themselves,” said Kristen Grusenmeyer, Women’s Network Committee Coordinator.

The seminar included tips on how to write a resume, how to prepare for an interview, and proper business attire.

Participants also received gift cards to shop for work clothes at the event. CoMo Connect provided free bus passes as well.

Grusenmeyer said they have had a lot of women land successful jobs after they’ve completed the seminar.

“Our new receptionist at the Columbia Chamber of Commerce is a graduate at the Changing the Odds program,” she said. “So it’s really cool to see the Columbia Chamber of Commerce that started it all bringing somebody in from that.”

The next seminar will be in May.
