Crews battle house fire in Jefferson City

Fire crews in the capital city battled a house fire Thursday afternoon before 3:00 p.m.

Flames erupted in the home at Argonne and Francis streets.

The Jefferson City Fire Department said there were still children inside the home when it got the initial call.

Everyone inside the building was able to evacuate, and there was significant damage to the first and second floors of the home due to smoke and heat.

A small child told investigators they were playing with a lighter and set a mattress on fire.

Firefighters were on the scene until about 5:00 p.m. to allow smoke to ventilate from the building.

No one was injured.
