Lockdowns lifted after man shot several times in Jefferson City
ABC 17 News has confirmed a man was shot several times Wednesday morning in Jefferson City.
It happened around 10:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Pine Street.
Officers said they were able to speak to the victim, who was then transported by EMS to an area hospital.
Jefferson City Police Detectives responded to the scene and started investigating with the assistance of JCPD Patrol Officers and members of the Community Action Team.
Witnesses were able to describe the suspects as two black men, ages 18 to 25, with an average height and build. They said one was wearing a black hoodie and khaki pants and the other wearing black shorts and a grey hoodie. Police said both suspects fled the scene on foot heading northeast.
While searching the scene, police found a handgun they believe was used in the shooting.
Three schools in the area were temporarily put on lockdown as a precaution around 11:00 Wednesday morning. The lockdowns were lifted for Simonsen Ninth Grade Center and the Jefferson City Academic Center by about 11:30. The lockdown at East Elementary was lifted just after noon.
The district issued this statement, “We are in contact with the JCPD and following their safety instructions. At this time we are not aware of any direct threat to any of our schools. This is a precautionary measure to protect our students and staff.”
Our crews were told there will be increased security at the powder puff game and bonfire for Jefferson City High School homecoming.
