Man released by police after woman claims she was kidnapped

A Mid-Missouri man was taken into custody Friday morning, after a woman called police claiming she had been kidnapped and held hostage in Callaway County.

Officers went to the O’Reilly Auto Parts around 10:30 a.m. on Bluff Street near St. Louis Avenue in Fulton.

The woman apparently locked herself in the bathroom and began yelling for employees. They dialed 911 and told police the woman said she was kidnapped and wouldn’t come out of the restroom.

Fulton Police responded to the scene, took a man in for questioning but was later released.

The case was turned over to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Department because the man and woman were from Calwood.

Upon further investigation, deputies found inconsistencies with the woman’s story.

It has been determined that the man and woman have been in a relationship for the last two and a half years, and the two had their names on a jointly owned vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing.
