Columbia Police warn of phone warrant scam

The Columbia Police Department is warning of a possible phone warrant scam in Boone County.

Authorities said a caller is impersonating local deputies or court workers.

They try to get personal information by saying an arrest warrant has been issued for not reporting to jury duty.

In each case, the scammer has asked for payment.

CPD warns that government agencies never call people asking for payment over the phone.

If you have any information about this phone scam, you’re asked to call 875-TIPS.
