Tracking rain and storms overnight, weekend cooldown

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy with showers and storms overnight. Lows in the low to mid-70s.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy early with showers and storms south of I-70. Highs in the mid-80s.

EXTENDED: It appears that the highest severe weather threat will be with these storms through about sunset, with more rain filling overnight along the cold front as lower-level winds kick in from the southwest and bring more moisture into the area. Concerns over the next few hours will be winds up to 50-60 mph and 1" hail. As the sun goes down and storms fill in by Friday morning, the threat will shift to heavy rain and localized flooding. With the highest severe weather threat over the next few hours, I don't think we need to extend our weather alert day at this point. Showers and storms continue into Friday with rain staying along and south of the front, eventually pushing south by mid-late afternoon, leaving us with highs in the low to mid-80s and much lower humidity heading into the weekend.

Saturday and Sunday look amazing with highs in the low to mid-80s and dew points falling back into the lower 60s. We remain dry on Saturday and Sunday, with cooler than average temperatures into early next week. By mid-late next week, our upper pattern starts to shift to a more south/southeasterly flow, bringing in more moisture and disturbances to potentially trigger storm chances. We'll also warm back up to near average with highs in the upper 80s to around 90 Wednesday and Thursday.
