Columbia Utilities to host public meetings for transmission line project

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Columbia Utilities will hold two public meetings in early October to garner feedback on an upcoming transmission line project, the city said in a news release Thursday.

The meetings will be at Forum Christian Church, 3900 Forum Blvd., on October 6. The first meeting will go from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the second will start at 5:30 p.m. and go until 7:30 p.m.

The city said the meetings will be open house-style so people can talk to city staff and ask questions.

The project involves a 161-kilovolt transmission line that would run along Vawter School Road and connect the Grindstone and Perche Creek substations. The city said the proposal was approved unanimously by the city council as the most cost-effective option.

"Building the transmission line will strengthen the interconnection to the grid, help with maintaining the grid and continue to bring reliable power to the community," the news release said.
