Public hearing set on proposed Jefferson City budget

A public hearing is scheduled Monday night for the Jefferson City Council on the proposed 2016 city budget.

Mayor Carrie Tergin proposed a $60 million budget for all funds on July 27.

In that budget, Jefferson City’s 414 full time city employees would receive a two percent salary increase.

The council will also hold a public hearing on the gross receipts utility tax, known as GRUT. It’s a tax levied on the gross receipts of people, firms, or corporations who sell and distribute natural gas, manufactured gas, steam, electricity, gas, telephone services, or telecommunications services for commercial, business, manufacturing, or industrial purposes within the city.

Mayor Tergin is proposing the GRUT stay at the current level, 5.65%.

The council will also see the introduction of a bill authorizing a $902,100 contract for HVAC at the Jefferson City Police Dept. The council will not vote on that issue until September.
