Heavy rain, storms, flash flooding possible starting Monday night

More heavy rain is expected for Mid-Missouri over the next three days.

A cold front will move in from the northwest starting late Monday afternoon, bringing showers and thunderstorms through Tuesday morning.

Some of these storms Monday afternoon and evening have the potential to produce damaging winds and large hail, in addition to the flash flooding risk. Areas mainly along and north of I-70 have the best chance of seeing severe weather Monday afternoon and evening.

The low level jet stream will continue to pump in moisture to the area through Wednesday, continuing our rain chances through mid-late week.

A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for all of Mid-Missouri through Wednesday night, with the highest totals south, including areas that were hit hard last week, such as the Lake of the Ozarks. Rainfall amounts between Monday night and Wednesday night will be between 2-4″, with locally higher amounts possible in embedded thunderstorms.

We dry out heading into the weekend, but temperatures warm back up into the low 90s by Friday and last into Sunday.
