Floodwaters still affecting cars in mid-Missouri

Days after heavy rains have stopped in mid-Missouri, emergency crews are still responding to water rescues in flooded areas around Columbia.

Officials responded to a call Saturday morning when a car became stuck in a few feet of water off Coates lane near Gillespie Bridge Road.

The driver of the car said she was following her GPS to get to work and it told her to drive down a semi-flooded side road.

She became stuck near the end of the dead-end road, in the deepest part of the water.

The road was next to a small creek. The water had seeped onto the gravel path after the heavy rains this week.

The company that towed the car said she should have turned around when she saw how flooded the road was.

Gillespie Road is known to flood and there are signs along the road warning that it is impassable when it rains enough to flood it.
