Man accused of assaulting woman, throwing puppy

A Columbia man landed in jail, accused of assaulting a woman near Socket off Clark Lane. Police arrested Jeffery Peterson, 38, around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was in a relationship with Peterson. She claims he shoved her around 3 Sunday morning, biting her thumb and taking her money and cigarettes before throwing her puppy to the ground.

The woman was dragged along Clark Lane by her hair, suffering cuts to her knees and elbows. The dog’s nose was also hurt.

Peterson was taken into custody near Wilkes Boulevard and College Avenue for animal abuse, domestic assault, robbery and stalking.
