Cooling centers are open to help beat the heat
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Salvation Army has several cooling center locations in Columbia and Jefferson City to help beat the heat during heat advisory conditions.
The cooling center at the ARC is open to anyone experiencing overheating. Cooling centers in the past have been helpful for the homeless population, but they are also open to people who don't have the best air conditioning in their homes.
Cooling centers for all locations are open when the temperature is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Masks or social distancing might be required depending on COVID-19 mandates.
Cooling Centers in Columbia:
Harbor House: 602 N. Ann St. (Open seven days a week)
Harbor House will provide cots will be offered when the predicted overnight temperature will be above 90. Check in 4 p.m. dinner is included. Check out 8 a.m. breakfast is included if temperatures are below 90 degrees.
Activity & Recreation Center (ARC): 1108 W Ash St. (Mon - Fri 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.)

- Clarke Senior Center: 1310 Linden Drive
- Missouri Regional Library: 214 Adams St.
