Police: man called 911 after realizing he had been shot
Police are investigating a shooting in north Columbia. Officers were called to the scene just before 9 p.m. Monday. According to authorities, the shooter remains on the loose.
911 operators got a call from a man who realized he had been shot in the stomach near Rangeline Street and Big Bear Boulevard. Police tell ABC 17 News they do not believe his injuries are life threatening, but they have not confirmed his current condition.
Investigators claim the 31 year-old victim was visiting a relative at Colonial Village Trailer Court. As he was leaving a trailer, he got inside a dark-colored SUV with two black men, who robbed him of some cash. The man says he got out and called emergency personnel after discovering his gunshot wound.
Officers were searching around the Colonial Village Trailer Court, about a quarter of a mile from where the victim was. So far, they have recovered five bullet casings from the area.
Neighbors tell ABC 17 News they heard fighting, followed by at least four gunshots. Police believe the shooting was personal, and they do not believe the suspect is a danger to the public.
