New president announced at Westminster College in Fulton

A Mid-Missouri college announced a new leader Friday. Dr. Benjamin Akande was appointed as the next president of Westminster College in Fulton.

Akande takes over July 1, after Dr. George Forsythe retires. Forsythe spent the last 10 years at Westminster, before filling his current role in 2008.

Akande was born in Nigeria and currently serves as dean of the George Herbert Walker School of Business at at Webster University in St. Louis, where he has worked for last 15 years. Akande earned a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Oklahoma, with post-doctorate studies at Harvard and Oxford. He will be the 21st president in Westminster College’s 164-year history.

“We must prepare graduates to live and work in a world that is far more diverse and richer in new opportunities than ever before,” said Akande.
