Congresswoman Hartzler shares lunch with CPS students

Congresswoman Vicki Hartzler stopped by a Columbia elementary school for a firsthand look at federally regulated school lunches.

Hartzler represents Boone County, and shared a school lunch with the Jefferson Middle School student council before meeting with CPS officials.

She also highlighted the “Reducing Federal Mandates on School Lunch Act.”

Under current rules, schools are losing morning.

“We all have the goal of having kids eat nutritious food and I think that was the original intent of the legislation passed several years ago, but it’s actually having the opposite effect. Kids are not eating the food, there is a lot of waste, and it’s costing school districts a lot of money and that’s not good,” said Hartzler.
