Missouri Supreme Court denies halting convicted killer’s execution

The Missouri Supreme Court has refused to halt the execution of a convicted killer over claims he’s mentally incompetent.

Cecil Clayton was convicted of first-degree murder for killing a sheriff’s deputy in 1996.

He’s scheduled to be executed Tuesday, but argued he shouldn’t be because he’s mentally incompetent.

Clayton’s claim stems from a brain injury suffered during an accident in 1972, when he had to have part of his brain removed.

The court ruled against him 4-3.
