Reports: Mack Rhoades set to be Mizzou’s next AD

Mack Rhoades is set to become Mizzou’s next athletic director, according to several national reports. Rhoades would replace Mike Alden, who is stepping down in August.

Rhoades is the current athletic director at the University of Houston. CBS Sports reports Rhoades will be introduced as the new Mizzou athletic director in a news conference set for Tuesday.

This would be Rhoades’ first administrative position in the SEC.

On Friday, the University of Missouri set a Board of Curators “special meeting” for Monday at 7:30 a.m. The meeting will take place for “consideration of certain confidential or privileged communications with university counsel, negotiated contracts and personnel matters all as authorized by law and upon approval by resolution of the Board of Curators.”

Before taking over at Houston, Rhoades was athletic director at Akron. He also held administrative positions at UTEP and Marquette. Rhoades led several facility projects, headlined by a $120 million football stadium that opened in 2014. He also hired Tony Levine in 2012, before firing him after Levine went 21-17 as Cougars head coach. Rhoades most recently hired Ohio State offensive coodinator Tom Herman to replace Levine.

UH chairman of the board of regents Tilman Fertitta told FOX 26 in Houston he is disappointed Rhoades will leave Houston.

“It was his opportunity to go to an SEC school,” Fertitta told FOX 26. “He didn’t want to pass it up.
