Tracking warm and muggy air alongside thunderstorm chances this weekend

TODAY: Friday is mostly dry. Some outflow from early-morning rain may trigger showers and weak thunderstorms, but otherwise the day looks dry and warm under a partly cloudy sky. Temperatures are warmer today, from morning to the afternoon. Starting in the 60s, temperatures should have no problem reaching the upper 80s with south winds through the day. Dew points in the 60s at times may give today a muggy feel, especially in comparison to Thursday.

TONIGHT: A second warm front will nudge in, bringing low-level winds that will trigger storms across far northwest Missouri. These storms are going to be strongest where they initiate, and weaken as they move south and east into Saturday morning. Isolated wind gusts and hail are possible, but most will get weak thunderstorms and showers as rain spreads across mid-Missouri from the north into Saturday.

EXTENDED: Rain may continue through mid-to-late morning on Saturday, but drier time is expected the rest of the day, when we'll again feel humidity in the air and temperatures in the mid-80s. Sunday is drier and warmer, as highs reach near 90° and heat indexes threaten the low 90s. More storms are expected Monday, as a deeper upper-level trough out west digs into the plains, pushing the active pattern closer to mid-Missouri. This will provide better chances for storms, and possibly severe storms, on Monday night and Tuesday.
